Here’s a list of tools I use on a regular basis.
I use Mac OS. Most of what I do involves RStudio and LaTeX. I use
LaTeX for everything I typeset: papers, slides, posters—I also used it
for my PhD thesis and my book. I sometimes use Windows and Office in class
to demo different things (e.g., reference management in Word using
Mendeley
or EndNote, R and
RStudio in Windows etc.). Here’s a list of tools I use.
- This website: RStudio (RMarkdown, Git, HTML, CSS)
- Data analysis: R (RStudio)
- Document preparation and reference management: LaTeX

- BibDesk or text editor(s) to edit references
- Slides: Beamer or Xaringan for anything involving R
- Python: Jupyter Notebook

- Phonetics: Audacity and Praat
- IPA fonts:
tipa

have a status bar at the bottom showing battery, CPU, memory, and
network throughput. See screenshot below
- General: Automator for simple tasks on
Mac OS
- Photography: These days, mostly Apple’s Photos; Pixelmator Pro is my
current go-to advanced tool. You can check some of my photos here. I have used Lightroom and
CaptureOne.
